Worship Wednesday: O God Forgive Us

Welcome to worship Wednesday! While there are many forms of worship, I am so inspired by music. I feel like God can use songs and lyrics to speak to our hearts. These posts are things that God reveals to me in my time with Him. My hope is that you will be encouraged and blessed by what is shared here.

This weeks Worship Wednesday is a song from for KING & COUNTRY feat KB, called O God Forgive Us. Being someone who is in ministry, this song convicts me in the most beautiful way!

One line of this song is “We want drive through peace and instant hope, our shallow faith has left us broke” and I recently heard someone preach a message about “drive through Jesus” and it just connected for me.

The drive through Jesus metaphor went something like this. God is our Father so He wants to provide for us with nourishment, like an earthly parent provides food for their children, Jesus “feeds” us with the Word and His presence. “If you then being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!" Luke 11:13 But often, we are too busy to receive. So, we go for the quick “drive through Jesus” where we just grab a quick bite, we go to Sunday morning service, or read our verse of the day, the spiritual equivalent of some chicken nuggets but He is sitting on the other side of the window with a full on FEAST and if we would just stop and LET Him bless us how much more satisfied would we be?! We just give God this little bit of ourselves and then wonder why we don’t feel blessed? We have a shallow faith that leaves us broke, when what we have available to us is a reckless love that gives and gives abundantly! “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” John 10:10

Then we come to this line in the song: “So busy doing Your work that we forgot that this was for You.” There’s the conviction! It is so easy in ministry to get caught up in the doing. I know I am guilty of this. I stress over set lists and who is going to show up and how we didn’t get to run through this song. Then, almost every time, something happens or someone says something that reminds me “oh yeah, this isn’t about me, it’s about HIM.” He takes over and people are blessed and all the stress was for nothing!

You don’t need to stress about WHAT you are doing, you just have to let go and let Him take over and be about WHY you are doing it. We have a policy of sorts with HPM and it’s pretty much this: Don’t do anything unless you feel led to do it. If your heart isn’t in it, then you’re doing it for the wrong reasons and that’s how you get burnt out! Jesus said “For my yoke is easy and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:30), not because what He was doing was easy but because He was led to do it and His heart was in it!

Take some time to let the Father feed you today. Spend time with Him in His word, in His presence. Take part in that feast that He has for you. Staying focused on Him will help keep you centered on the why of what you are doing, and make your work for Him be about Him.

“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” Jeremiah 17:7-8*
